Gay Pride LGBT Cuba – A Blast from the past
Gay Pride LGBT Cuba. Another of my Blogs I have transfer from my Old Havana Wix website has since become topical in the UK due to the 50th anniversary of the change in the laws on Homosexuality.
I came across a very interesting article on www.usatoday.com all about the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Trans-gender) in Cuba. To be honest, it’s not a subject that has ever crossed my mind and I never associated Cuba with the LGBT people, why? God only knows.
So, it was with some great surprise that I learned that Cuba has more of a liberal outlook on LGBT issues than a lot of European countries do, even to the extent that they have gender re-assignment clinics and people are picked to have the sugery performed.
This is a very interesting article that I think you would like to read. I have “borrowed” a few paragraphs but you can see the full script from the main website of USA Today.
Cuba’s LGBT People are coming out!
Cuba has provided gender reassignment surgery for free since 2008. The Cuban National Center for Sex Education (CENESEX), a government-funded institution, selects candidates for the procedure.
Cuba is also considering legalizing same-sex marriage in this predominantly Catholic region where only four nations already do. The LGBT minority on the Caribbean island has increased its visibility by participating in international events, such as Gay Pride and the International Day Against Homophobia.
Another sign that Cuba is tolerant of gay lifestyles as it resumes diplomatic relations with the United States: The island nation’s first gay choir, Mano a Mano, is currently on a cross-country U.S. tour.
I have no doubt that, in years to come, we will wonder what all the fuss was about? Lets hope so. Gay Pride LGBT Cuba, its all happening now.
